Louisianna, USA: Rice research celebrates centennial |

 The Advertiser: Crowley - Field tours and poster sessions took on added significance at the LSU AgCenter's annual Rice Field Day. The Rice Research Station celebrated a century of operation Wednesday.
Established in 1909, the station is the oldest rice research facility in the entire Western Hemisphere.
"It has an international reputation," said David Boethel, vice chancellor of research for the LSU AgCenter.
"We're very proud to have this station as part of our organization."
The Rice Research Station was established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture after farmers saw a need to develop new varieties adapted for Gulf Coast conditions.
