Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute of RDA celebrates Farmers' Day [continued]
More than 2,000 rice farmers, students, and extension personnel attended. In his speech, chief guest Dr. Myeong-Ho Um, deputy administrator of RDA, encouraged the farmers to adopt new cultivars developed through new technologies by YARI, RDA, and cultivate high-yielding japonica rice with better nutritional quality.
This event demonstrated new rice varieties, environment-friendly agriculture, and tests
of eating quality of new varieties of rice, soybean, sesame, and peanut released by YARI. Two symposia on eco-friendly rice cultivation and prospects
for the technology to replace chemical herbicide were held in which farmers' representatives participated and discussed the subject.
Other dignitaries attending the celebration were Dr. Seong-Hee Lee, DG of the National Institute of Crop Science, RDA; Dr. Jung Kwang-Yong, DG of
the Honam Agriculture Research Institute, RDA, and President of Gyeongsangnam Province Agricultural Research and Extension Services.
